Alphartetta Branch Library History

The Alpharetta Branch Library opened on June 1, 1966 after the Alpharetta Women’s Club and other organizations campaigned to bring a public library to the city. Ten years later, the Alpharetta Library grew to include over 10,000 books. However, Alpharetta was still considered a small, undeveloped town and residents rode their horses to the library. In 1989, the present Alpharetta Public Library opened to the public and experienced massive growth in the first year.

Alpharetta Branch Library moved from its old location on Canton Street to a new location in the heart of Downtown Alpharetta. Currently, Alpharetta Library is 25,000 square feet and continues to grow in popularity in the city of Alpharetta.
