Alpharetta High School Overview

Alpharetta High School is a public school in Alpharetta, GA located just a few miles away from Downtown Alpharetta. The school opened its doors to the public in the Fall of 2004 and now offers a diverse learning community to over 2,000 students. Alpharetta High School (AHS) became an International Baccalaureate World School in 2018, allowing Juniors and Seniors to apply for the Diploma Programme. Also, this high school consistently ranks among the top schools in Georgia. In Niche.com’s 2024 Best Public High Schools list, Alpharetta High School ranked 3rd out of 435 public schools in Georgia. Furthermore, Alpharetta High School ranked 4th out of 416 public schools in Georgia on the Niche.com Best College Prep Public High Schools in Georgia list.

Academic Summary

Alpharetta High School offers a variety of special academic programs including the International Baccalaureate (IB) program for juniors and seniors, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, Dual Enrollment, and Career, Technical, and Agricultural courses. For foreign language courses, this public high school offers Spanish, Chinese, and French.

This high school offers 30 different AP courses in both the core curriculum and student electives. In 2024, 988 Alpharetta High School students took AP exams with 89% of students scoring a 3 or higher, earning college credit. The same year, AHS had 108 students awarded AP Scholars with Honor and 216 students named AP Scholars with Distinction!
