Bulloch Hall History

The Greek Revival Mansion was the childhood home of Teddy Roosevelt’s mother, Martha Bulloch Roosevelt. The home was built in 1839 by the slaves of Major James Stephens Bulloch, Mittie Bulloch’s father. James was the grandson of Governor Archibald Bulloch and was among the first settlers in Roswell, Georgia. In 1853, Mittie Roosevelt held her wedding with Theodore Roosevelt Sr. in the dining room of Bulloch Hall. Five years later, the couple welcomed Theodore Roosevelt Jr., who later became the 26th President of the United States. Teddy Roosevelt became the youngest US President to ever take office at just 42 years old. In 1905, Teddy made a special trip to Roswell to visit the childhood home of his mother, Mittie.

This historical home is now part of Roswell’s Southern Trilogy of Historic House Museums.
