About Indian Seats at Sawnee
Indian Seats at Sawnee is located just a short drive from Alpharetta in Cumming GA and is one of the best hiking trails in North Georgia. It is a relatively beginner out and back trail located in the Sawnee Mountain Preserve featuring a gradual increase in elevation, 3.6 miles total, and takes around 45 minutes to a little over an hour to complete (depending on your pace). The trail offers a beautiful location for seeing abandoned gold mines, hiking, bird watching, and running.
The Indian Seats at Sawnee are a natural rock formation consisting of 3 depressions in the earth that resemble “seats” which were once used by Cherokee Indians for ceremonial purposes. Once you reach the top of the Indian Seats Trail, you will be rewarded with some of the best views of Georgia’s Blue Ridge mountains and a wooden observation deck with seating to rest.
Indian Seats is open year-round, and there are no dogs allowed. Free on-site parking is available.
